ACCD, LAS and AGFUND organized a Regional Workshop on “The Arab Child and the Digital Environment”, attended by 25 Arab experts

The experts emphasized the need for awareness, protection, and digital empowerment of the Arab child
The Arab Council for Childhood and Development (ACCD), in partnership with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), held a workshop of the Media Observatory for Arab Child Rights (MOACR) on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. This workshop aimed to discuss the development of a new component of the MOACR’s work entitled: "The Arab Child and the Digital Environment". The event brought together more than 25 experts in media and child rights from five Arab countries: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Libya and Egypt.

The workshop was held under the patronage of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of ACCD, as part of ACCD’s strategic project entitled: "Media Observatory for Arab Child Rights".
This MOACR project is implemented by ACCD in partnership with LAS and AGFUND. Its mission involves monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating media performance related to child rights and upbringing, with the aim of achieving a child-friendly media approach through the ACCD’s upbringing model, "Education for Hope".

The workshop addressed the new component of the MOACR focusing on the Arab child and digital media. This component emphasizes the fundamental right of the child to a safe media environment across all aspects of life. The initiative aims to empower children to navigate the digital world in an era of successive industrial revolutions, leveraging future technologies and opportunities to benefit the upbringing of future generations and support sustainable development.

Through their discussions during the workshop, the experts stressed the importance of the scientific component of MOACR. They recommended studying the relationship between children and the digital environment, particularly social media platforms, electronic games and artificial intelligence applications. The experts also called for the development of digital skills among children, ensuring digital awareness and protection, while advocating for dialogue among governments, companies and stakeholders to promote children’s safe access to the digital environment.
